what being gothic means

Postby jennifer4232 » Wednesday 28. November 2007, 08:38

being gothic means that you hate life. usally something has happened to you like you lost someone close or you didnt have a parent growing up. you dress in dark clothing. mostly black. you dont have to be into witchcraft and stuff like that but you can be. if your all TRUE gothic, you worship the devil. you can still be gothic but worship God, too, but true goth's worship the devil. your depressed, sad, and you feel angst all the time. you dont care if someone loves you. you dont depend on others for love. THAT'S goth!

i dont know if this should be a bad joke, but this is exactly that, what all the people think about goths, and it seems, you dont know what either what it means to be goth

you dont have to hate live. you also can be goth when you are a happy person, the most people just find theyre interests in beeing a goth when they are deathseekers. being a goth means to show your deepest inners in the outside, like, if you feel just deep sad, you maybe colour your hair black, otherwise, when you are a crazy one you colour them pink, green or something like that. it is mostly about respecting indiviadulists and not that much about hating live...

and about worshipping the devil... thats just totally wrong. you mean satanists. and goths are DEFINITLY not satanists! there is no religion based in the goth scene, some are believing in the old viking and celtic stuff, others dont believe in anything, and again others are believing in god. but goths dont worship the devil
Take me till it ends...

Real Satanism does not support worshipping and Devil is not exception. Individuals who worship Satan are as much Satanists as people who think that goths drink blood, slay people, hate life... (and so on) are goths.

you say that goths definitely are not Satanists but at the same time you claim that goths don't follow one specific religion. 8-) That means, they can be Satanists.

The answer is - people define term "Goth" differently for they all are unique. There is no proper way to become or be goth. (tough there are wrong suppositions of what is goth, as our friend "Nightwish 666" already wrote - goths don't hate life and such..)
Describing all goths with few words would be as difficult as describing every human being on world. It's impossible and actually very narrow-minded.
But I can tell you that one cumulative quality for all goths is tolerance. ;) I believe, everyone would agree with this.

thats the most sterotypical, genralised, incorrect meaning of goth ever, thats what you get teenage chavs thinking goth means, thats why people who dress get attacked, because of sheer idiotic statements like that.

the origional and true goths, evolved form the punk era, with people like suxioe siox leading the way as such, nothing satanic about it(please note i think religion is a wast eof time, and that it causes unneccesary violence)its just now goth has been americanised

american parents and people who dotn wan thier kids to be goth(usually inbread bible bashing hicks)would say "oh theyre devil worshipers" to put thier kids of dressig like that, then that gives kids the idea of rebellion, pissing off thier parents,by dong exactly that

its stupid...

i despise stupidity C=

To me, my interperetation of Goth is an expression, its a personal aspect thats as intense as you choose to make it, it may be an interest in occult and wiccan practices, it may be a lifestyle, or a manner of dress and appearance. A culture exists because there are many who share a common interest in "Goth".
Judgemental people may stereotype based on such things, but to me thats half th interest.
Shroud yourself in dark clothing, and you can hide in th shadows, yet do it on a regualr basis, you can "hide" in th daylight. Make people decide their interest, either they want to know you and see past the image, see what your feelings and personality are (goths arent all vampire junkies) or just plain put hem off entirely. I find it weeds out th people of little interest, if they judge character on culture, theyre probably easier being brushed off, than dealt with personally.
But i digress, goth is an artform and a certain set of guidelines, writing, drawing and "dark broody" written works are good shows of th main draw of gothic themes.
Some goths choose this appearance due to personal feelings, yes they may have some sadness in their life experience, but that doesnt neccesarily encompass th entire goth scene.
Enjoy th mystique, th art and th culture, or go elsewhere....haha its that simple.

If you want something sensational to write about , what of th S and M aspect..... sexuality is another perspective altogether isnt it
The real question is, does th current trend of EMOtionally damaged youth come under th older goth scene? I think it is set apart in its own right....

Everybody should listen to this person, maybe then we might be able to get our heads out of immediately categorizing people and start forming opinions based on who a person is and what they do with their lives instead of assuming we know everything about them just because they wear different clothes or listen to different music or are just different to us in general

I will only categorize someone as a goth if they do themselves.
